How an Egg Boiler Electric Works

An egg boiler electric is a small appliance that cooks eggs with steam instead of a full pot of boiling water. You pour water into the base, put the eggs on a tray, close the lid and switch it on. The water boils and the steam cooks the eggs. Soft eggs take about 6 to 8 minutes and hard eggs about 10 to 12 minutes once the water boils.

A dedicated egg boiler usually holds 6 or 7 eggs. Kent is one brand that sells them. On its own website, Kent lists the Quick Egg Boiler (7 eggs, 370 W, Rs 849), the Instant Egg Boiler (7 eggs, 360 W, Rs 1,049) and the Super Egg Boiler (6 eggs, 400 W, Rs 1,049). We checked these on 12 October 2026. A dedicated egg boiler does one job well: it boils eggs.

Dedicated Egg Boiler vs Multipurpose Cooker with Egg Tray

A dedicated egg boiler only boils eggs. Kent sells its models for Rs 849 to Rs 1,049. The InstaCuppa multipurpose cooker costs Rs 1,499 (Regular) or Rs 1,699 (Non-Stick). It boils eggs and also steams momos and idlis and cooks rice, noodles and soup. The egg tray comes free in the box.

Egg Boiler Tray for Kettle: How It Works

An egg boiler tray for a kettle is a flat tray with round egg holes. It sits inside a wide kettle cooker, above the water. The InstaCuppa multipurpose kettle cooker comes with one in the box. Its egg tray has 7 egg holes, as our product photos show.

Here is how you use the egg boiling tray in the kettle:

1. Pour at least 500 ml of water into the pot. Our product page gives 500 ml as the minimum, so the pot never boils dry.
2. Place the egg tray in the pot and set the eggs in the holes.
3. Close the glass lid and switch the cooker on.
4. Start your timer when the water boils. Hard-boiled eggs take about 10 to 12 minutes.

Can you put an egg tray in a normal jug kettle? Most jug kettles have a narrow top, so a tray does not fit inside. You can still boil eggs in some kettles with the right steps. Read can you boil eggs in an electric kettle. We do not sell the egg tray on its own. It comes with the cooker.

Egg Boiler Electric: How Many Minutes for Soft, Medium and Hard Eggs?

An egg boiler electric takes about 6 to 12 minutes, counted from when the water boils. In the InstaCuppa 600 W cooker, our product page says boiled eggs take about 10 to 12 minutes once the water boils. Soft eggs take about 6 to 8 minutes. Medium eggs take about 9 minutes. Always use at least 500 ml of water.

These times are our starting guide, not a lab test. Egg size and how cold the eggs are change the time. Start with the medium time and adjust.

A soft egg with a runny yolk is not fully cooked. The World Health Organization says Salmonella illness is "generally contracted through the consumption of contaminated food of animal origin (mainly eggs, meat, poultry, and milk)". It lists "cook thoroughly" as a basic food hygiene step (WHO fact sheet on Salmonella). So pick hard-boiled eggs when you want the safest choice. Pro tip: After steaming, put the eggs in cold water for 2 minutes. This stops the cooking and cools the shell, so the eggs are easier to hold and peel.

More watts heat the water faster. The egg still cooks in steam, so the watts change the wait, not the taste. In Hindi, an egg boiler is often called अंडा उबालने वाली मशीन (anda ubalne wali machine).

Can We Steam Momos in an Egg Boiler?

You can steam momos in an egg boiler only if it has a flat steaming plate. A plain egg tray has round holes for eggs, so momos do not sit flat on it. The InstaCuppa kettle cooker has a separate steamer tray. Our product page says it holds about 8 to 10 momos, and they take about 10 to 12 minutes once the water boils.

Milk and Egg Boiler: Can You Boil Milk?

We do not advise boiling milk in a dedicated egg boiler. It is made to heat a little water under the eggs, and milk can boil over or burn. Our kettle cooker product page lists water, chai, rice, noodles, soup, curries, momos, idlis and eggs. It does not list milk, so check the manual before you try.
