Last updated: 7 September 2026 (prices and stock re-checked)
Finding the best soda maker is harder than it looks. Bias disclosure: I am the founder of InstaCuppa. One of the products below is mine. I have tried to judge every product on the same points. Where InstaCuppa wins, I say so. Where it loses, I say that too. The numbers come from official product pages and Amazon.in listings. I re-checked every price and stock status on 7 September 2026.

Which Is the Best Soda Maker Machine in India?
For most Indian homes the best soda maker is the Mr. Butler Italia. It costs Rs 3,370 on Amazon.in today. Its refillable cylinder cuts the running cost to about Rs 3 to 6 per litre. Want the lightest one, or one you can carry? The InstaCuppa Portable Soda Maker costs Rs 2,199 and weighs just 500g. It was sold out online on 7 September 2026. Want the best build? Take the SodaStream Terra. It is now an import at about Rs 17,000.
Soda Maker Price List (India, 2026)
| Soda maker | Price | Running cost per litre | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| InstaCuppa Portable Soda Maker | Rs 2,199 (sold out 6 Sep 2026) | Rs 33–50 | Portability (500g) |
| Softel Soda Maker | Price on request (no online offer, 7 Sep 2026) | Rs 3–6 | Cheapest cylinder model |
| Mr. Butler Italia | Rs 3,300–3,800 | Rs 3–6 | Lowest running cost, families |
| Clearline Soda Maker | Rs 3,595 (brand site) | Rs 3–6 | Safety engineering |
| SodaStream Terra | Rs 17,115 (import listing) | Not verifiable in India | Build quality, premium |
Prices are the upfront cost of the machine. I re-checked them on Amazon.in and on each brand's own site on 7 September 2026. The cylinder models cost more to buy but far less to run. They overtake the capsule model once you drink soda most days. Full scoring is in the comparison table further down.
Quick Action Checklist
- Pick your priority. Portability points to InstaCuppa. Daily running cost points to Mr. Butler or Softel.
- Check refill access first. Cylinder models need a stockist near you. Call the Mr. Butler line at 1800 103 1557 and ask.
- Check stock on the day. InstaCuppa and Clearline were sold out on their own sites on 7 September 2026. Softel had no Amazon offer.
- Count your litres. Under 7 litres a week, capsules are fine. Over that, a cylinder saves real money.
- Carbonate water only. Add syrup or juice after the fizz. Every brand here says the same.
2026 Update: India's Sparkling Water Boom
Fizzy water is no longer a niche treat in India. The market is growing fast. And more buyers want it at home.
Here is what the latest 2026 data shows:
- A billion-dollar market. India's sparkling water market was worth about USD 1,322 million in 2025. It is set to hit USD 2,769 million by 2034. That is 8.48% growth every year.
- Flavoured fizz leads. Flavoured sparkling water was the biggest segment in India in 2025. It is also the fastest-growing type. A home soda maker lets you add any flavour you like.
- Demand jumped 22% in a year. India's sparkling water market grew 22.53% from 2023 to 2024. More homes want fizzy water each day.
The takeaway is simple. More fizzy water at home means a soda maker earns its price back faster.
How We Evaluated: 5 Criteria with Weights
Every "best soda maker" list online ranks products but never says how. Here is exactly how I scored each one. The weights are open, so you can disagree and change them.
| Criteria | Weight | What It Measures |
|---|---|---|
| Value for Money | 30% | Upfront cost + running cost over 12 months at moderate use (7L/week) |
| Ease of Use | 25% | Setup time, daily operation, refill convenience, learning curve |
| Portability | 20% | Weight, size, ability to use outside the kitchen |
| Build Quality & Safety | 15% | Materials, safety certifications, pressure testing, warranty |
| Availability & Support | 10% | Where to buy, refill network, customer service, return policy |
I scored each product from 1 to 10 on each point. Then I applied the weights. The final ranking is a balanced view. If portability matters less to you than running cost, your ranking will look different. That is fine. To understand how carbonation systems differ, read my guide to soda carbonators.
#1: InstaCuppa Portable Soda Maker — Best for Portability (Rs 2,199)
What it is: A 500g portable bottle. It carbonates 1 litre of water with a single-use CO2 capsule. It comes with 10 capsules and 2 lids, one for carbonating and one for drinking. Amazon.in buyers rate it 4.3 stars from 104 ratings.
Pros
- Lowest upfront cost of any branded soda maker in India (Rs 2,199)
- Genuinely portable at 500g - office, gym, travel, picnics
- 10-day free trial with free returns - zero risk to try
- Consistent carbonation - one capsule, one litre, same result every time
- No cylinder logistics - capsules ordered online, delivered to your door
- BPA-free, food-grade plastic (per the product page)
Cons
- Highest running cost: Rs 33 - 50 per litre (vs Rs 3 - 6 for cylinder systems)
- One capsule per litre - no way to adjust fizz intensity
- Single-use capsules generate more waste than refillable cylinders
- Not ideal for heavy users (2+ litres daily) due to cost accumulation
- Sold out online on 7 September 2026 - check the product page for a restock
Best for: People who want to carry it around. Light to moderate users, under 7L a week. Anyone unsure they will stick with home soda and who wants a low-risk try.
Scores:
- Value 6/10
- Ease of Use 9/10
- Portability 10/10
- Build Quality 8/10

#2: Mr. Butler Italia — Best Running Cost for Families (Rs 3,300–3,800)
What it is: A countertop soda maker made in India. It uses a refillable CO2 cylinder that makes about 25 litres, or 125 glasses. The Amazon listing gives its weight as 3.95 kg with the cylinder. Mr. Butler says it made Asia's first home soda maker. It calls itself the largest maker in the region. Amazon.in buyers rate the single-cylinder pack 4.3 stars from 719 ratings.
Pros
- Lowest running cost: about Rs 3 - 6 per litre. A spent cylinder is swapped at a stockist for a small gas charge, about Rs 75 - 100 in most cities
- Adjustable fizz - press the button more times for stronger carbonation
- Widest retail availability - Amazon, Flipkart, Croma, local stores
- Dedicated refill helpline: 1800 103 1557
- Multiple colour options and bundle packs (single/double cylinder)
- Pioneered Asia's first home soda maker (brand claim)
Cons
- Not portable - about 4 kg with cylinder, designed for the kitchen counter
- Higher upfront cost (Rs 3,300 - 3,800 depending on pack)
- Cylinder exchange requires finding a local stockist
- 500ml PET bottle included feels small for families
Best for: Families who drink soda water every day. Buyers who want the lowest cost per litre. People with counter space who do not need to carry it.
Scores:
- Value 9/10
- Ease of Use 7/10
- Portability 2/10
- Build Quality 8/10
- Availability 9/10
#3: Softel Soda Maker — Lightest Cylinder Unit (Price on Request)
What it is: A countertop soda maker. Softel Machines Ltd. makes it in Kutch district, Gujarat. It uses a refillable CO2 cylinder and makes 1 litre per operation. The basic unit weighs 900g, about 2.5 kg with the cylinder. It has a triple safety valve. It needs no power and no plumbing.
Pros
- Low running cost: Rs 3 - 6 per litre - on par with Mr. Butler
- Triple safety valve - excellent pressure safety engineering
- Lighter than Mr. Butler at 900g (base unit)
- Indian manufacturer with local parts and service
- Priced on request via dealers. Our earlier checks put it near Mr. Butler's single-cylinder price
Cons
- Smaller retail presence - mainly IndiaMART and local dealers. The Amazon.in listing showed no offer on 7 September 2026
- Cylinder refill network is less established than Mr. Butler's
- Fewer bundle options and accessories
- Not portable - countertop design
Best for: Buyers who want cylinder running costs in the lightest base unit. Get a dealer quote first. Earlier prices were close to Mr. Butler's. Good in smaller cities where Softel has dealers.
Scores:
- Value 8/10
- Ease of Use 7/10
- Portability 2/10
- Build Quality 7/10
- Availability 6/10

#4: Clearline Soda Maker — Best Safety Engineering (Rs 3,595)
What it is: A countertop soda maker from Clearline Appliances. They sell it as "The Drink Maker." It uses a refillable aluminium-alloy CO2 cylinder. One fill gives 80 to 100 glasses. It has a built-in pressure release valve. It needs no power. You can buy it on Flipkart, on the brand site, and in local shops.
Pros
- Low running cost: Rs 3 - 6 per litre - same economics as other cylinder systems
- Built-in pressure release valve - stops over-carbonation
- Indian brand with domestic manufacturing and service
- Available on Flipkart and through local retail - easy to buy offline
- Straightforward operation - no electricity, no plumbing
Cons
- Higher upfront cost than both InstaCuppa and Softel
- Fewer customer reviews online compared to Mr. Butler
- Refill network is thin. Buyers on Clearline's own page report a single, costly refill agency in Pune
- Not portable - countertop design
- Fewer colour options and bundle configurations
Best for: Buyers who want a pressure release valve. One cylinder gives 80 to 100 glasses. Also good if you shop on Flipkart or in local stores. A solid pick for daily kitchen use.
Scores:
- Value 7/10
- Ease of Use 7/10
- Portability 2/10
- Build Quality 8/10
- Availability 5/10

#5: SodaStream Terra — Best Premium Experience (Rs 17,115 import)
What it is: The world's best-known home soda maker brand. The Terra uses SodaStream's Quick Connect CO2 cylinder. Amazon lists it at about 1 kg. It comes in several colours. Each cylinder makes up to 60 litres. PepsiCo owns the brand. Global buyers rate it 4.6 stars from 4,181 ratings on the Amazon.in listing.
Pros
- Best build quality - premium feel, sleek design, dishwasher-safe bottle
- Quick Connect cylinder system - snap-in, no screwing
- Highest capacity per cylinder - up to 60 litres
- Strong global brand with extensive support resources
- Wide range of official flavour drops (Pepsi, 7UP, etc.)
Cons
- By far the priciest here - Rs 17,115 as an import on Amazon.in (7 September 2026)
- Ships from abroad, so returns and warranty are harder
- CO2 cylinder refills are harder to find in India than local brands
- Not designed for portability - countertop unit
- Proprietary cylinder system - cannot use standard CO2 cylinders
- Running cost higher than local cylinder brands due to proprietary refills
Best for: Buyers who want the premium brand. They do not mind paying more. You must sort out cylinder exchange before you buy. We could not verify an official SodaStream exchange network in India.
Scores:
- Value 4/10
- Ease of Use 8/10
- Portability 2/10
- Build Quality 10/10
- Availability 4/10

Which Soda Maker Should You Buy? Winner by Use Case
| If You Need... | Buy This | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Portability (office, gym, travel) | InstaCuppa (Rs 2,199) | Only portable option at 500g. No other product comes close. |
| Lowest running cost | Mr. Butler (Rs 3,370+) | Rs 3 - 6/L with established refill network. Best for daily heavy use. |
| Cheapest cylinder soda maker | Softel (price on request) | Same running cost as Mr. Butler. Lightest cylinder base unit at 900g. |
| Lowest risk to try | InstaCuppa (Rs 2,199) | 10-day free trial, free returns, lowest upfront cost. Perfect for first-time buyers. |
| Premium build quality | SodaStream Terra (Rs 17,115 import) | Global brand, premium materials, dishwasher-safe bottle, Quick Connect system. |
| Family of 4+ with daily use | Mr. Butler (Rs 3,370+) | 25L per cylinder, adjustable fizz, widest refill network. |
| Absolute cheapest option | ISI Soda Siphon (Rs 800+) | Not on this ranked list, but covered in my budget guide. |
A note on the scoring. InstaCuppa ranks #1 because portability carries 20% weight. Take portability out, and Mr. Butler would be #1. Weight running cost at 50%, and all three cylinder brands would beat InstaCuppa. The ranking only helps if the criteria match your needs.

Soda Maker Safety and Refills in India: 4 Things to Check
Most soda maker guides skip this part. These four checks save you from a machine that sits idle.
- Food-grade gas. India's standard for carbon dioxide, IS 307, lists Grade 2 as the grade for beverages. Ask any refill agency which grade they fill. Capsule systems ship food-grade gas in sealed cartridges.
- Refill access. Mr. Butler swaps a spent cylinder at a stockist for a nominal gas charge. Its toll-free line is 1800 103 1557. Clearline buyers in Pune report only one agency, and it charges a lot. Read our soda maker cylinder problems guide before you commit.
- Pressure safety. Softel fits a triple safety valve. Clearline fits a pressure release valve. Carbonate cold, plain water only. Juice or milk foams and can damage the unit. See what happened when we carbonated juice. If your fizz fades fast, try these fixes for flat homemade soda.
- Sugar. The WHO says free sugars should stay under 10% of daily energy. That is about 50g for an adult. Plain sparkling water has none. Add fruit or a squeeze of lime instead of syrup.
Clean the bottle and nozzle every week too. Our soda maker cleaning guide shows how.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best soda maker in India for home use?
It depends on what you need. For carrying around and the lowest upfront price, pick the InstaCuppa Portable Soda Maker. It costs Rs 2,199. For the lowest running cost with daily family use, pick the Mr. Butler Italia at Rs 3,300 and up. For the best build and a known brand, pick the SodaStream Terra. It is an import at about Rs 17,000 today. There is no single best. There is only the best for you.
Are soda makers cheaper than buying bottled sparkling water?
Yes, significantly. Bottled sparkling water costs Rs 40 - 60 per 500ml. That is Rs 80 - 120 per litre. Even the costliest home option, InstaCuppa capsules, is Rs 33 - 50 per litre. Cylinder systems cost Rs 3 - 6 per litre. At 7 litres per week, you save Rs 2,000 - 5,000 a year against store-bought sparkling water.
Can I carbonate drinks other than water in a soda maker?
No. All the soda makers here tell you to carbonate plain, cold water only. Juice, milk, and flavoured drinks foam too much. They can also damage the machine. Carbonate the water first. Then add your syrup or flavour. I have published a homemade cola recipe that follows this exact method.
Do soda makers need electricity?
None of the 5 soda makers here need power. They all run on CO2 pressure. That comes from capsules in the InstaCuppa. It comes from refillable cylinders in the Mr. Butler, Softel, Clearline, and SodaStream. So you can use them in a power cut, outdoors, or anywhere with no plug.
Which soda maker has the best warranty and return policy?
InstaCuppa has the most buyer-friendly policy. You get a 10-day free trial with free returns, no questions asked. You also get a 1-year warranty. Mr. Butler gives a 1-year warranty. Returns go through the site you bought from, like Amazon or Flipkart. SodaStream gives a 2-year warranty worldwide. The Amazon.in listing is an import, so India support is uncertain. Softel and Clearline give standard maker warranties.
How much does a CO2 cylinder refill cost in India?
Mr. Butler swaps a spent cylinder at a stockist for a nominal gas charge. Our CO2 refill guide found about Rs 75 to Rs 100 per cylinder at authorised dealers. That works out to roughly Rs 3 to 6 per litre. Prices vary by city, so call 1800 103 1557 first. Capsules cost more, about Rs 33 to 50 per litre, but they arrive by courier.
Is SodaStream available in India?
Not officially, as far as we could find. The SodaStream Terra on Amazon.in is an import at Rs 17,115 on 7 September 2026. It ships from abroad. Cylinder exchange is the harder part. We could not verify an official SodaStream exchange network in India. A local cylinder brand is the safer buy.
