Soda Maker CO2 Refill in India: Cost, Dealers, and Mail-In Refills

Most people meet this problem on a Sunday. The gas runs out, the fizz dies, and the machine goes quiet.

Then the hunt starts. You search for a refill near you and find almost nothing useful.

I have run a soda maker at home for years. Here is what a soda maker CO2 refill really costs in India.

You will also get the two ways to find one. And the one question to ask before you hand your cylinder to a stranger.

What a Soda Maker CO2 Refill Costs in India

Those numbers come off the brand's own live payment page, not a forum post. Here they are in full.

Now put that against the litres. The brand says one filled cylinder makes about 25 litres, or roughly 125 glasses.

So one Rs 350 refill works out to about Rs 14 a litre of soda water. In the four-pack it drops to about Rs 11 a litre.

A local dealer exchange can come in under that. No brand publishes a counter rate, though, so you have to call and ask.

How to Find a CO2 Refill Near You

The in-stock filter is the part that saves the trip. A listed dealer is not the same as a dealer with gas today.

Here is the order I would work through.

1. Open the brand locator. Mr. Butler's sits at mrbutlers.com/find_dealer. Pick your district or PIN.
2. Filter to Refill Cylinder and tick Show Only In Stock.
3. Call before you drive. Stock moves faster than any website.
4. No result? Ring 1800 103 1557 or SMS refill to 8129177779.
5. Still nothing? Use the postal route in the next section. It reaches every PIN code.

If your machine is a different brand, the same order still works. Find its dealer page first, then call, then fall back to post.

The Postal Refill Most Owners Miss

The brand's own page lays it out in three steps.

1. Pay for the pack you need on the refill exchange page: one, two or four cylinders.
2. Courier your empty cylinders to Protech Appliances (P) Ltd, 190/XI, Aluva Industrial Development Area, South Vazhakulam, Erumathala P.O., Aluva, Kerala 683105.
3. Email the tracking number to butlershop@mrbutlers.com. Filled cylinders are couriered to your address.

It is slower than a shop around the corner. It is also the only route that works the same in Jaipur, Jorhat or a small village.

One habit makes the wait painless. Keep a spare cylinder at home, so one is always in use while the other travels.

Ask This Before Any Local Refill

This matters because welding shops and small gas traders often offer to top up a soda cylinder. It looks helpful. It costs little.

But a filler without that licence is breaking the rules. And you have no way to check what went into your cylinder.

The brand says the same thing in plainer words. Mr. Butler's cylinder page warns buyers to "beware of locally refilled refills" and to look for the Mr. Butler logo on the refill wrapper.

Now the gas itself. FSSAI lists carbon dioxide as INS 290 and allows it as a packaging gas at GMP level.

GMP just means "use no more than you need". So there is no purity number for you to check at a counter.

That is exactly why the licence question is the practical test. You cannot test the gas, so you check the filler instead.

One more thing worth knowing: the licence applies to whoever fills the cylinder. Keeping a couple of CO2 cylinders at home is well inside the household exemption, so you need nothing.

Why SodaStream Owners Get Stuck

Abroad, the brand swaps cylinders in supermarkets. That network is the whole reason the machine feels easy there.

In India you are left with gas traders, small sellers, or a switch to a brand that refills here. That is a real gap. It is worth knowing before you buy an imported machine.

Refill or Buy a Spare Cylinder?

That trade is the real decision, and it deserves proper maths rather than a slogan.

What I Would Do

Try the locator first, with the in-stock filter on. A same-day swap beats everything else.

If nothing stocked sits within a sensible drive, buy one spare and run the postal exchange. You then have gas at home permanently, for about Rs 14 a litre.

And wherever you go, ask the licence question. It takes five seconds and it is the only check available to you.

Those are the only refill prices any Indian soda maker brand publishes openly. A local dealer may charge less, but you have to ask, because no rate card is published.

Can I get my CO2 cylinder refilled at a welding shop?

Filling a gas cylinder is a licensed job in India, not a favour. PESO says a licence is required under rule 43 of the Gas Cylinder Rules 2016. So ask the shop one question: do you hold a PESO licence to fill this? Mr. Butler also warns buyers to beware of locally refilled refills and to look for their logo on the wrapper.

How many litres does one CO2 cylinder make?

Mr. Butler says one filled cylinder makes roughly 25 litres, or about 125 glasses. That is their own figure for their own cylinder. Your real number will be lower if you like a strong fizz, because a stronger fizz uses more gas per bottle.

Where can I refill a SodaStream cylinder in India?

There is no official SodaStream India channel to refill through. The sodastream.in address does not open a SodaStream shop at all. It redirects to a domain sales page, which means the name is simply parked and up for sale. Owners here usually end up at an industrial gas supplier, or they move to a brand that does refill in India.

Do tareeke hain. Pehla: apne sheher mein dealer dhoondhiye, brand ke locator se, aur khali cylinder wahan exchange kar lijiye. Is it cheaper to refill or to buy a spare cylinder?

Refilling is much cheaper. A posted refill exchange runs Rs 350 for one cylinder. Buying spare cylinders outright costs far more: Mr. Butler lists a pack of two at Rs 1,510 and a pack of six at Rs 4,510. A spare is worth it for one reason only. You always have gas in the house while the empty one is travelling.
