What is cold brew coffee?

Cold brew coffee is made by steeping coarsely ground coffee in cold or room temperature water for 12-24 hours. Unlike hot coffee, it is never heated — the slow extraction produces a smooth, naturally sweet, low-acid coffee. Cold brew concentrate is 50-67% less acidic than hot brewed coffee, making it easier on the stomach. It is not the same as iced coffee, which is hot-brewed coffee poured over ice.

How do you make cold brew coffee at home?

dd 100g of medium-coarse ground coffee to the InstaCuppa cold brew maker's filter basket. Fill the 2.2L jug with cold or room temperature water. Seal with the airtight twist-to-lock lid and refrigerate for 12-18 hours. Remove the filter basket before pouring. The result is 9-10 cups of smooth cold brew — serve straight, over ice, or blended with milk for Indian-style cold coffee. One batch lasts up to 2 weeks in the fridge.

Cold brew vs iced coffee — what's the difference?

Cold brew is steeped in cold water for 12-24 hours — never heated. Iced coffee is hot-brewed coffee poured over ice. Cold brew is smoother, less bitter, and 50-67% less acidic. Iced coffee is faster to make (5 minutes) but tastes more bitter and acidic because heat extraction pulls different compounds. If you have a sensitive stomach or prefer smoother coffee, cold brew is the better choice.

What is the best coffee-to-water ratio for cold brew?

For concentrate (dilute before drinking): use a 1:8 ratio — 100g coffee per 800ml water. For ready-to-drink: use a 1:12 to 1:16 ratio — 100g coffee per 1.2-1.6L water. The InstaCuppa 2.2L maker with measurement markings helps you get the ratio right. Start with 1:12 and adjust stronger or weaker to your taste. Medium-coarse grind (like raw sugar) works best.

How long does cold brew take to make?

Cold brew takes 12-18 hours of steeping in the refrigerator. Shorter steep times (12 hours) produce a lighter, more tea-like flavour. Longer times (18-24 hours) produce a stronger, bolder concentrate. Do not steep beyond 24 hours — the coffee becomes over-extracted and bitter. The InstaCuppa cold brew maker's airtight lid prevents fridge odours from affecting the taste during steeping.

How long does cold brew last in the fridge?

Cold brew concentrate lasts up to 2 weeks in the fridge in an airtight container. Diluted cold brew (ready-to-drink) lasts about 1 week. The InstaCuppa cold brew maker's twist-to-lock airtight lid keeps the coffee fresh and prevents fridge odours from seeping in. Always use clean utensils when pouring to avoid contamination.

Is cold brew coffee healthier than hot coffee?

Cold brew coffee is 50-67% less acidic than hot-brewed coffee, making it gentler on the stomach and better for people with acid reflux or sensitive digestion. It contains the same caffeine levels (or slightly higher in concentrate form). Cold brew retains more antioxidants because heat is never used in extraction. However, it is not a health drink — adding sugar and cream adds the same calories as with hot coffee.

Can I use a cold brew coffee maker for iced tea and infused water?

Yes. The InstaCuppa cold brew maker works for cold brew tea, fruit-infused water, detox water, and flavoured water. Add loose-leaf tea or sliced fruits to the fine mesh filter, fill with cold water, and steep for 2-4 hours (tea) or 1-6 hours (fruit infusions). The 2.2L capacity is ideal for making a large batch of infused water for the whole family. ---
