Slow Cook Recipes: LOW 300W Setting

14. Dal (Moong or Toor)

Soak dal for 2 hours. Add to pot with 3 cups water. Start on HIGH until it boils. Switch to LOW (300W). Simmer for 20-25 minutes. Add salt, turmeric, and a tadka of cumin and garlic.

15. Chicken/Vegetable Stew

Add diced veggies or chicken pieces to the pot. Add coconut milk and water. Start on HIGH until it boils. Switch to LOW. Simmer for 20-30 minutes. The gentle heat lets flavors blend without burning. Season with salt, pepper, and curry leaves.

The LOW 300W setting is the key. Without it, you cannot simmer. Food burns on constant high heat. The two-setting design turns a simple kettle into a real cooker.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I cook all 15 recipes in both steel and non-stick versions?

Yes. Both versions handle all 15 recipes. The non-stick version is better for frying eggs (recipe 5) since eggs slide off easier. Steel is better for baby food prep.

Can I cook two recipes at the same time?

Yes. Cook rice or dal in the pot. Steam eggs or momos on the tray above at the same time. One heat source cooks both.

Which recipes work best for hostel students?

Maggi, boiled eggs, chai, rice, and dal are the top 5 hostel meals. They are cheap, fast, and filling. You can eat well for Rs 30-50 per meal.

Do I need to soak dal before cooking in this cooker?

Yes. This is not a pressure cooker. Without soaking, dal takes too long and stays hard. Soak moong dal for 2 hours and toor dal for 3-4 hours before cooking on LOW.

What is the hardest recipe on this list?

Steamed momos (recipe 11). The wrapping takes practice. But the steaming itself is easy. Everything else on the list is beginner-friendly.
