Milk Frother Not Working? 7 Fixes Before You Return It
Is Your Frother Really Broken?
If your milk frother is not working, it is probably not broken. In 9 out of 10 cases, the issue is dead batteries, a loose whisk, or clogged dried milk. Before you return it, try these 7 fixes. Most take under 60 seconds and will get your frother spinning again.
What Are the 7 Most Common Fixes?
Fix 1: Replace the Batteries
This fixes 50% of all "not working" complaints. Even if the frother still turns on, weak batteries cause slow spinning and thin foam. Replace both AA batteries with fresh Duracell or Energizer. Do not mix old and new batteries — replace both at the same time.
Fix 2: Check the Whisk Connection
The whisk head must click or snap into the motor shaft. If it is loose, the motor spins but the whisk does not. Pull the whisk off, clean the connection point, and push it back on until you feel it lock in place.
Fix 3: Clean the Whisk
Dried milk clogs the spring coil. When the spring is packed with dried milk, it cannot spin freely. Soak the whisk in hot water for 5 minutes, then scrub with an old toothbrush. You will see white flakes come off — that is the dried milk.
Fix 4: Check Milk Temperature
Cold milk straight from the fridge is harder to froth than warm milk. If you are frothing cold milk, use the highest speed and froth for 30-45 seconds instead of 15-20. For hot foam, heat milk to 60-65 degrees first.
Fix 5: Let the Motor Cool Down
If you used the frother for more than 60 seconds straight, the motor may have overheated. Turn it off and wait 2-3 minutes. Small motors have thermal protection that shuts them down when they get too hot. After cooling, they work normally again.
Fix 6: Check for Battery Corrosion
Open the battery compartment and look at the metal contacts. If you see white or green crusty powder, that is corrosion from leaked batteries. Clean it with a cotton swab dipped in vinegar or lemon juice. Let it dry completely before putting in new batteries.
Fix 7: Try a Different USB Cable (Rechargeable Models)
If your rechargeable frother will not charge, the USB-C cable might be faulty. Try a different cable. Also check if the charging port has dust or lint — blow it out gently. If the LED indicator does not light up with any cable, the internal battery may be dead (this happens after 2-3 years of daily use).

Still Not Working After All 7 Fixes?
If none of these fixes work, your frother may have a real hardware issue. Here is what to do:
- Under warranty (1 year): Contact InstaCuppa support at support@instacuppastore.com with your order number. We will replace it free.
- Out of warranty (battery model): If the motor itself died, it is cheaper to buy a new frother (Rs 699-899) than to repair it.
- Out of warranty (rechargeable): If the built-in battery no longer holds a charge after 2+ years, the unit needs replacement. This is the known trade-off with rechargeable frothers.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my frother turn on but not spin the whisk?
The whisk is not connected properly. Pull it off and push it back on until it clicks. Also check if the whisk shaft is bent.
Why does my frother smell like burning?
The motor is overheating. Turn it off immediately and let it cool for 5 minutes. Do not use it for more than 60 seconds at a time.
Can I fix a rechargeable frother that will not charge?
Try a different USB-C cable first. If the LED still does not light up, the internal battery is likely dead. This happens after 300+ charge cycles (2-3 years).
Why does my frother work but make no foam?
You are using the wrong whisk (powder mixer instead of foam whisk), the milk is too hot (boiled), or the whisk is clogged with dried milk.
Is it worth repairing a milk frother?
Usually no. At Rs 699-899, a new frother costs less than most repair services. Replace rather than repair.
