How to Use a Tumbler with Straw, Step by Step

1. Wash it first. Clean the body, lid and straw with warm water and mild soap before you use it.
2. Fill it. Add water, juice or iced coffee. Leave a little room at the top so the lid sits well.
3. Close the lid. Press or twist it on until it feels firm all the way round.
4. Add the straw. Push it down through the hole in the lid until it touches the bottom.
5. Sip. You do not need to tilt the tumbler, so you can drink while you work.
6. Clean up. At night, take the straw out, wash all the parts and let them dry.

For our own tumbler, the InstaCuppa product page says: "Clean after each use with warm water and mild soap." It also says to avoid scouring pads, so use a soft brush.

Can You Use the Straw for Hot Chai or Coffee?

There is a health reason to let tea cool, too. The WHO cancer agency, IARC, says: "Drinking very hot beverages was classified as probably carcinogenic to humans (Group 2A)."

With the straw in, the straw hole stays open. That is fine on a desk, but not in a bag.

When you leave home, take the straw out, close the flip cap and keep the tumbler standing up.

How to Clean a Tumbler Straw and Lid

Purdue University Extension says: "Metal straws are like any other utensils and should be washed after each use, even if you're just drinking water."

It adds: "Hand wash with water and dish soap, using a thin brush to scrub the inside." Then "Let dry completely before storing."

The lid needs care too. UAB says: "It is important to clean any rubber sealing parts, straws or lids that may have crevices where moisture can accumulate".

UAB also says: "Allow the cup to air dry completely before next use."

Why Is the Tumbler Trending?

The Quencher was not an instant hit. CNBC says it "arrived in 2016 to little fanfare."

CNBC also explains the design. The cup "sported a handle for ease of transportation, as well as a tapered design that allowed it to slide into a car's cup holder."

Stat check: CNBC reported: "Stanley's revenue jumped from $73 million in 2019 to $94 million in 2020." Sales were "projected to top $750 million in 2023."

Social media did the rest. CNBC says: "The cup is a social media darling, especially on TikTok."

It adds that "The #StanleyTumbler hashtag has been viewed more than 900 million times".
