| Brew Method | Clicks from Finest | Grind Texture |
|---|---|---|
| Turkish coffee | 1 - 3 | Extra fine (powdery) |
| Espresso | 4 - 6 | Fine (like granulated sugar) |
| Moka pot / AeroPress | 7 - 9 | Medium-fine |
| Pour-over / Drip | 10 - 12 | Medium (like table salt) |
| South Indian filter coffee | 8 - 10 | Medium-fine to medium |
| French press | 13 - 15 | Coarse (like sea salt) |
| Cold brew | 16 - 18 | Extra coarse (like peppercorns) |
How to adjust: Remove the crank handle. You will see a knob or nut on top of the burr shaft. Turn it clockwise for finer, counter-clockwise for coarser. Count the clicks as you turn. Replace the handle and grind a few test beans to check the consistency.
Which Option Is Best for You?
Hold the grinder firmly with one hand around the body (or use the silicone grip band if included). Turn the crank at a steady pace - about 1 rotation per second. Avoid going too fast, which can cause uneven grinding. Grind until the crank turns freely with no resistance. This means all beans have passed through the burr.

- Tap the grinder gently to dislodge any grounds stuck inside before unscrewing the collection jar.
Time estimate: Grinding 20 g of coffee (enough for one cup) takes about 45 - 60 seconds at a medium setting. Finer settings take longer.
How Do You Clean and Maintain It?
After every use: Tap out loose grounds. Use the included brush to sweep the burr chamber and grind path. Weekly: Disassemble the burr by removing the adjustment knob and lifting the inner burr out. Brush all parts thoroughly. Do not use water on the ceramic burr - moisture can cause grounds to clog.

- Monthly: Run a small handful of uncooked rice through the grinder to absorb oils and remove stale coffee residue. Discard the rice grounds.
- Never wash the burr with water. Ceramic burrs do not rust, but trapped moisture creates a paste with coffee oils that clogs the mechanism.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many grind settings does the InstaCuppa manual grinder have?
The Classic model has 18 click-based settings covering everything from Turkish coffee (extra fine) to cold brew (extra coarse). The Pro model offers 40 settings for even finer control.
Can I grind spices with this grinder?
We do not recommend it. Spices like pepper, cardamom, and cloves contain oils and flavors that will permanently transfer to the ceramic burr and affect the taste of your coffee. Use a separate spice grinder instead.
How long does the ceramic burr last?
Ceramic burrs are extremely durable. With daily home use (1 - 2 cups per day), the burr will last 3 - 5 years before you notice any change in grind consistency. Ceramic does not rust and stays sharper longer than steel burrs.
