The photos here are for reference only. An electric kettle does not cook like a stovetop or a microwave. On a stove you can control the flame. In a kettle you cannot. So the taste and look may be a little different. Expect about 70–80% of stovetop results. The recipes still work well — just keep this in mind.

Stay Safe With Your Kettle

A kettle is safe when you use it the right way. Here are the rules. Always add water before you turn it on. A dry kettle can burn out. Do not fill it too full. Leave space at the top. Milk and starchy water rise fast and spill. Watch milk, chai, rice, and pasta as they cook. Turn the heat low if they foam up. Never put the base in water. The base holds the wires. Water there is not safe. Unplug the kettle before you clean it. Let it cool first. A good kettle has auto shut-off and dry-boil safety. These turn it off on their own. Both InstaCuppa kettles have these safety parts.
Kettles come in low and high power. A small travel kettle is 300 to 600 watts. A big home kettle is 1500 to 2000 watts. More watts means faster cooking. A travel kettle is slower but it is light and small. It is great for one person. The 600 watt multicook kettle is a good middle pick.
Which Kettle For Which Recipe?
A plain kettle is best for hot water jobs. Boil eggs, noodles, soup, and pasta. It cannot saute or fry. A multicook kettle has a non-stick pot. You can saute, simmer, and pan-fry in it. So you can make poha, upma, rice, dal, and even pancakes. A plain kettle does about 10 of these recipes. A multicook kettle does all 20.
| Recipe Type | Plain Kettle | Multicook (Non-Stick) | Multicook (Steel) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Boiled eggs, noodles, pasta, soup | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Oats (with water) | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Chai, milk, hot chocolate | No | Yes | With care |
| Poha, upma, vermicelli (saute) | No | Yes | Yes |
| Pancake, French toast (pan-fry) | No | Yes | Sticks |
| Rice, dal, khichdi (long cook) | Hard | Best | Good |
