But spec sheets are confusing. Watts, jar sizes and "continuous grinding" claims do not always mean what they seem.

This guide names four mixer grinders worth your money. It also shows you how to read the fine print, so you can judge any model yourself.

Quick answer: For most homes, buy a 750W mixer grinder with three steel jars and an ISI mark. The Philips HL7756 is the value pick under ₹4,000. The Preethi Zodiac adds a chopping and kneading jar. The Sujata Dynamix suits big batches of batter. The Bajaj Rex 500W is enough for light use.

1. Philips HL7756 (750W, 3 jars) — Best value under ₹4,000

The Philips HL7756 has a 750W motor and three stainless steel jars of 1.5, 1 and 0.3 litres. Philips gives a 2-year product warranty. Its spec sheet lists the motor at 23,000 rpm with no load and 13,400 rpm under load.

It was listed at ₹3,699 on the Philips India site, though it showed out of stock there on 4 October 2026. It is the best fit if you want a 750W mixie under ₹4,000.

Keep in mind: the working capacity is much smaller than the jar size. More on that below.

2. Bajaj Rex 500W (3 jars) — Best for light daily use

The Bajaj Rex 500W comes with three steel jars: a 1.2 L wet jar, a 0.8 L dry jar and a 0.4 L chutney jar. Bajaj gives a 1-year product warranty, according to its product page.

500W handles chutney, soft spices and small amounts of batter well. It suits a couple or a small family that cooks lightly.

Keep in mind: the warranty is half that of the 750W picks. Do not expect it to grind big batches of urad dal.

3. Preethi Zodiac (750W, 4 jars + chef jar) — Best all-rounder with a food processor jar

The Preethi Zodiac has a 750W motor with four jars plus a 2.1 L Master Chef Plus jar. Preethi says that jar chops, slices, grates and kneads dough. The brand gives a 5-year motor warranty and a 2-year product guarantee on its product page.

This is the pick if you searched for a mixer grinder with a food processor. One machine covers grinding and most chopping jobs.

Keep in mind: it costs about three times the Philips. Buy it only if you will use the extra jars.

4. Sujata Dynamix (900W, 3 jars) — Best for heavy batter and long runs

The Sujata Dynamix has a 900W motor with 100% copper winding and double ball bearings. Sujata rates it for 90 minutes of running. Its jars are a 1.5 L blender jar, a 1 L dry jar and a 0.5 L chutney jar. The Sujata product page lists a 2-year product warranty.

Pick it if you grind idli and dosa batter in large amounts, or you cook for a joint family.

Keep in mind: it is the priciest pick here. A small family will not use all that power.

How to Pick a Mixer Grinder for Your Home

Quick answer: Check five things: motor watts, working capacity of the jars, rated run time, warranty and the ISI mark. Match the watts to how much you grind, not to the biggest number in the shop.

• Watts: 500W for light jobs, 750W for daily family cooking, 900W or more for heavy batter. Our guide to mixer grinder watts goes deeper.
• Working capacity: the amount a jar can grind at once. It is often well under half the listed size.
• Rated run time: how long the motor may run before it needs a rest. Read the footnote.
• Warranty: a longer motor warranty shows the brand trusts its motor. Preethi gives 5 years on the Zodiac motor.
• ISI mark: it is required by law. Skip any mixie without it.

Speed numbers can mislead too. Brands usually quote rpm with no load. Philips also lists the HL7756 with load, and it drops from 23,000 to 13,400 rpm. So compare no-load figures only with other no-load figures.

Jar Size vs Working Capacity: The Number Most Buyers Miss

Quick answer: A jar's listed size is not how much it can grind. The Philips HL7756's 1.5 L jar has a working capacity of 0.6 L. Plan your batch size on working capacity, or you will grind in more rounds than you expect.

Mixer jars need empty space so food can move around the blades. That is why the working capacity is so much smaller. Here is the gap on the Philips HL7756, from its official spec sheet:

Most brands do not print working capacity on the box. If you grind batter for four or more people, ask for it, or pick a bigger jar.

The Fine Print on "Continuous Grinding" Claims

Quick answer: Read the footnote. Philips' 25-minute continuous grinding claim assumes a 2-minute break after every 2 minutes of grinding. Preethi advises grinding for 30 to 45 seconds and then resting for 20 to 30 seconds.

Many ads promise long non-stop grinding. The Philips HL7756 sheet says "continuous 25 min grinding". But the footnote adds that this counts 2 minutes of cleaning time after every 2 minutes of use.

Sujata rates the Dynamix motor for 90 minutes. Even so, short bursts are kinder to any motor. Preethi's own care guide suggests grinding for 30 to 45 seconds, resting for 20 to 30 seconds, and repeating.

Good to know: A burning smell while grinding can mean overload or worn parts, says Preethi. Stop, let the motor cool, and grind smaller amounts.

Quick answer: A mixer grinder is the all-rounder for Indian cooking. Buy a wet grinder if you make large batches of idli and dosa batter every week. A food processor is for slicing and kneading. A chopper is for quick onion and garlic jobs.

ISI Mark and Where to Buy a Mixer Grinder in India

Quick answer: Only buy a mixer grinder with the ISI mark. Under the Kitchen Appliances Quality Control Order 2018, food mixers must meet IS 4250, and the rule has applied since 1 May 2019.

The Kitchen Appliances (Quality Control) Order 2018 lists domestic electric food mixers under IS 4250. The goods must carry the BIS Standard Mark under a licence. The order came into force on 1 May 2019.

Look for the ISI mark and licence number on the body or the box. Then compare the live price on the brand site and on Amazon. Read recent reviews about the motor and jar seals before you buy.
