Best Coffee Beans for Pour Over in India: 8 Picks for 2026
Why Do Coffee Beans Matter for Pour Over?
Pour over coffee is a slow, gentle brew method. It passes hot water through a bed of ground coffee one time. Unlike a French press or espresso machine, there is no pressure and no long soak time. This means pour over shows every detail of the bean — good and bad.
Fresh, well-roasted beans taste bright and sweet in a pour over. Stale or low-quality beans taste flat, papery, or bitter. The brewing method is honest. It does not hide anything.
This list is not a lab test. I picked 8 Indian roasters whose bags suit a pour over dripper like the InstaCuppa Pour Over Coffee Maker (sold out on our store as of 24 October 2026). For each pick, the roast, tasting notes and price come from the roaster's own website, checked on 24 October 2026.
What is pour over coffee powder, and which is best in India?
Quick answer: Pour over coffee powder is simply coffee ground for a pour over dripper. The National Coffee Association puts pour over at a medium grind, water at 93 ± 3 degrees Celsius, and 1 gram of coffee to 13–16 grams of water. In India the two easiest bags to start with are Blue Tokai Amaltas Blend (light roast) and Third Wave Coffee Chikmagalur single origin (medium-light roast).
Whole beans ground at home taste better than ready-ground powder, because ground coffee starts to lose aroma soon after grinding. If you cannot grind at home, ask the roaster for a pour over or V60 grind and finish the bag in 5 to 7 days.
Which Roast Level Works Best for Pour Over?
Light to medium roast beans work best for pour over coffee. Light roast keeps the original flavour of the coffee origin — fruity, floral, or tea-like notes. Medium roast adds some chocolate and caramel sweetness while keeping brightness.
Dark roast can work too, but it often tastes more bitter and smoky in a pour over. A paper filter gives a very clean cup, so every roast note shows. If you like dark roast, a French press or a moka pot may suit it better.
Roast date tip: The National Coffee Association says coffee starts to lose freshness soon after roasting, so buy small bags often. A common rule of thumb is to buy beans roasted within the last 2 to 4 weeks. Some roasters also want the beans to rest first: Blue Tokai lists a resting period of 8 to 16 days for its bags. Look for the "roasted on" date on the bag, not just the "best before" date.
8 Best Coffee Beans for Pour Over in India (2026)
Pour over coffee brands in India worth trying: Blue Tokai, Third Wave Coffee, Subko, ARAKU, Curious Life, Devans, Corridor Seven and Maverick and Farmer. All eight are Indian roasters that sell 250 gram bags on their own websites. Most will grind for a pour over or V60. Prices below run from Rs 500 to Rs 1,095 for 250 grams, checked on 24 October 2026.
There is no single best coffee available in India for every cup. For pour over, the safest start is a fresh light or medium roast Arabica from an Indian estate, with a roast date on the bag.
1. Blue Tokai — Amaltas Blend (Light Roast)
Blue Tokai is one of the best-known specialty coffee roasters in India. Its Amaltas Blend mixes washed and natural coffees and is roasted light. Blue Tokai lists notes of blueberry and milk chocolate, with a chocolatey finish. The roaster says its flavours shine through in a pour over or an AeroPress, and that it is best black.
An earlier version of this list named Blue Tokai Attikan Estate here as a light roast. Blue Tokai now sells Attikan as the darkest of its medium roasts and suggests it mainly for espresso, so Amaltas is the better pour over pick.
Best for: People who like fruity, bright coffee. Price: Rs 700 for 250g on the Blue Tokai website (24 October 2026). Blue Tokai suggests resting this bag for 16 days after the roast date.
2. Third Wave Coffee — Chikmagalur Single Origin (Medium-Light Roast)
Third Wave Coffee sells a single-origin Arabica from the Chikmagalur region of Karnataka. The beans are hand-picked and sun-dried. Third Wave lists notes of sweet honey and raisin, with a juicy peach note. Its shop tags the roast as medium-light. It is smooth and easy to drink, which makes it a good start for pour over beginners.
An earlier version of this list named a Third Wave "Baarbara Estate" bag. We could not find that bag in the Third Wave shop on 24 October 2026, so it has been replaced.
Best for: Everyday pour over drinking. Price: Rs 700 for 250g whole beans on the Third Wave website (24 October 2026).
3. Subko — Kerehaklu Estate Lot CW3 (Light Filter Roast)
An earlier version of this list named KC Roasters of Mumbai here. On 24 October 2026 we could not find a working online shop for KC Roasters. Its website shows only a holding page, and the Wanderlog travel guide lists its Khar cafe as permanently closed. So this slot now goes to Subko.
Subko's Project Yung Gun lot comes from Kerehaklu Estate in Karnataka. It is a single-origin SLN 9 Arabica. The beans went through an aerobic washed process, and Subko gives them a light filter roast. Subko's cupping notes are orange creamsicle, green grape and caramel.
Best for: Adventurous drinkers who want complex flavours. Price: Rs 1,095 for 250g on the Subko website (24 October 2026). Subko offers a V60 or Kalita grind.
4. ARAKU Coffee — Signature (Medium Roast)
Araku Valley in Andhra Pradesh grows some of the best-known specialty coffee in India. ARAKU Signature comes from the village of Kuthangi Thadeput. There it grows under silver oak trees with pepper vines, and the farmers are named on the bag page. ARAKU labels Signature as fair trade and certified organic, and roasts it medium. The roaster lists notes of chocolate, green pepper and cherry, with the aroma of fine tea.
Best for: People who want ethical, organic coffee. Price: Rs 670 for 250g on the ARAKU website (24 October 2026). ARAKU sells whole beans or several grind sizes.
Fresh grinding makes every bean taste better
5. Curious Life Coffee Roasters — Gundikhan Washed (Vibrant Profile)
Curious Life Coffee Roasters does not use light, medium or dark labels. It says it roasts each coffee to one profile of its own. Its Gundikhan Washed "Vibrant" comes from Gundikhan Estate in the Baba Budangiri Hills of Karnataka, at 4,200 to 4,500 feet. It is a fully washed Chandragiri Arabica. Curious Life lists subtle pomegranate and orange notes and a crisp, clean finish. The roaster marks it for conical drippers like the V60, and not for milk or espresso. This is not everyday coffee. It is a weekend treat.
An earlier version of this list named a Curious Life "Ratnagiri" bag. It is not in the Curious Life shop now, so it has been replaced.
Best for: Weekend pour over rituals. Price: Rs 990 for 250g on the Curious Life website (24 October 2026).
6. Devans Coffee — Special Blend (Medium Roast)
Devans South Indian Coffee and Tea is a roaster and shop in Lodhi Colony, New Delhi. Its Special Blend mixes two pure Arabica coffees, Peaberry and Plantation AA, at a medium roast. Devans describes it as medium bodied, with a deep citrus flavour and spicy notes. It is one of the cheapest bags in this list. Devans will grind it for "Paper Filter / Pour Over" if you have no grinder.
An earlier version of this list called this a Kerala roaster with a Wayanad and Palakkad blend. That was wrong. If you want the extra body of Robusta, Devans also sells a Premium Blend of Arabica and Robusta at Rs 425 for 250g.
Best for: People switching from South Indian filter coffee. Price: Rs 500 for 250g on the Devans website (24 October 2026).
7. Corridor Seven Coffee Roasters — Ratnagiri Estate Washed (Medium Roast)
Corridor Seven Coffee Roasters is based in Nagpur, Maharashtra, and has sold Indian coffee since 2017. Its Ratnagiri Estate lot is a washed Catuai Arabica grown at 1,350 metres. The roaster lists notes of plum, brown sugar and the dryness of green apple. It is roasted medium on an espresso profile, but Corridor Seven says it liked this coffee as a pour over too. The balance between brightness and sweetness makes it forgiving even if your pour technique is not perfect yet.
An earlier version of this list called Corridor Seven a Delhi roaster and named a Kerehaklu Estate bag that its shop does not list now.
Best for: Pour over beginners who like a sweet cup. Price: Rs 765 for 250g on the Corridor Seven website (24 October 2026). Corridor Seven offers a "Pourover V-60" grind.
8. Maverick and Farmer — Say Hello to Mellow (Light Roast)
An earlier version of this list put Kaapi Machines here. Kaapi Machines sells coffee machines and brewing tools. We found no coffee beans in its online shop on 24 October 2026, so this slot now goes to Maverick and Farmer.
Maverick and Farmer's Say Hello to Mellow is a single-estate Arabica. It is fully washed and given a mild, light roast. The roaster lists notes of banana and berry. It says pour over is the best way to brew it, or any method where the coffee does not sit in water for long. It is a solid daily driver for pour over.
Best for: Daily pour over at home or office. Price: Rs 680 for 250g on the Maverick and Farmer website (24 October 2026).

How to Choose Beans for Your Taste
Picking beans for pour over does not need to be complicated. Follow these five rules.
- Start with medium roast if you are new to pour over — it forgives small mistakes in technique
- Move to light roast once you can control your pour — light roast rewards good technique with complex flavours
- Buy fresh, buy small — get 250g at a time and finish within 3 weeks of the roast date
- Grind right before brewing — the National Coffee Association says grinding just before you brew gives the freshest cup
- Try single-origin first — blends taste smoother but single-origin beans show you what pour over can really do
Grind Size Tip for Pour Over
Even the best beans taste bad with the wrong grind size. The National Coffee Association says to start pour over at a medium grind, then adjust. The grounds should feel gritty, not like powder. Too fine clogs the filter and makes bitter coffee. Too coarse drains too fast and tastes weak.
For an even grind, the National Coffee Association suggests a burr grinder. The InstaCuppa Electric Coffee Grinder (Rs 4,999 on 24 October 2026) is made for pour over, French press, AeroPress and moka pot grinds. It is not meant for espresso. Read our Pour Over Grind Size Guide for exact settings.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use pre-ground coffee for pour over?
You can, but the taste will be flatter. Ground coffee starts to lose aroma soon after grinding. For best results, grind beans right before brewing. If you must buy pre-ground, finish the bag within 5 to 7 days.
How much do specialty coffee beans cost per cup in India?
A pour over cup uses about 15g of coffee, the dose the National Coffee Association uses in its pour over steps. The bags in this list cost Rs 500 to Rs 1,095 per 250g (checked 24 October 2026). That works out to about Rs 30 to Rs 66 per cup. Most cafes charge far more for one pour over, so home brewing saves money every day.
Is Robusta coffee good for pour over?
Pure Robusta usually tastes too bitter and harsh for pour over. But a blend that is mostly Arabica with a little Robusta can add body without ruining the cup. Devans, for example, sells a Premium Blend of Arabica and Robusta. Robusta is the bean India actually grows: the Coffee Board of India puts the 2025–26 final crop at 3,73,000 tonnes, of which 2,62,000 tonnes are Robusta and only 1,11,000 tonnes Arabica, so an all-Arabica bag costs more here for a reason.
Where can I buy specialty coffee beans online in India?
All 8 roasters in this list sell through their own websites. We checked each shop on 24 October 2026. Some of them are also sold on big shopping sites. For the freshest beans, order direct from the roaster.
Which pour over coffee is best under Rs 500 in India?
Devans Special Blend is the one bag in this list at Rs 500 for 250 grams (checked 24 October 2026). Devans also sells its Arabica and Robusta Premium Blend at Rs 425. Most single-origin specialty bags now cost Rs 650 to Rs 1,100 for 250 grams. At about 15 grams a cup, even those work out to roughly Rs 40 to Rs 66 a cup. So buy a small bag with a recent roast date rather than a large cheap bag that goes stale.
What are the best pour over coffee brands in India?
Good pour over coffee brands in India include Blue Tokai, Third Wave Coffee, Subko, ARAKU, Curious Life, Devans, Corridor Seven and Maverick and Farmer. Each sells 250 gram bags on its own website, as whole beans or ground. Start with a light or medium roast that has a recent roast date.
How should I store coffee beans at home?
Keep beans in an airtight, opaque container in a cool, dark spot, away from the stove and sunlight. The National Coffee Association says coffee soaks up moisture and food smells, so the fridge is not a good everyday spot. It gives roasted beans 1 to 3 weeks of best freshness at room temperature. Buy smaller bags more often instead of one large bag.
Ready to Brew Better Pour Over Coffee?
Good beans deserve a good setup. Start with a gooseneck kettle and a burr grinder.
