How It Brews

Everything goes into the steel carafe. Milk, water, tea powder, sugar, your masala — all in one pot. Press the Chai button. Walk away. In 10-12 minutes, your chai is ready.

This is the traditional Indian brewing method. The same way your mother makes it on the stove. Everything together, simmering and infusing. The result is proper kadak chai with that depth of flavour you only get when milk and tea brew together from the start.

What We Liked

• One-pot Indian-style brewing — no separate compartments, no extra steps. Everything in, button pressed, done.
• Unbreakable steel carafe — this is the single biggest advantage for families with small children. My son is one year old. Things get knocked off counters. Glass is a risk I don't want in my kitchen right now.
• Stainless steel carafe with a food-grade plastic whisker inside for frothing and mixing.
• 700ml carafe, brews up to 600ml — enough for 2-3 proper cups. My wife and I get our morning chai, with a small cup left over.
• Cold froth mode — makes cold coffee and iced lattes without a separate frother. Nice bonus for summer.
• Sleek, compact design — doesn't take over the kitchen counter. The brushed steel looks genuinely good.

What We Didn't Like

• Only 2-3 cups per batch — if your in-laws are visiting and everyone wants chai at the same time, you'll need to run two batches. For a family of 4+, this is a real limitation.
• 10-12 minute brew time — the steel carafe takes longer to heat than glass. It's not a dealbreaker, but if you're comparing it to the 7-8 minutes of the Wonderchef, it's noticeably slower.

Best For

What We Didn't Like

• Glass is breakable — this is the obvious concern. Drop it, and it shatters. In a kitchen with small kids running around, this is a genuine risk. We designed the steel version specifically to address this.
• Only 400ml / 2 cups per batch — smaller capacity than the steel version. Enough for a couple, but barely enough for three.

Best For

Couples without small children, or anyone who loves the visual experience of watching chai brew. If breakage isn't a concern in your kitchen, the glass version is elegant and slightly faster.

How It Brews

Unlike the InstaCuppa, the Wonderchef uses a split brewing method. You add water, tea, sugar, and spices to the main glass jar. Milk goes into a separate compartment on top. The machine brews the tea first, then automatically releases the milk into the brewing tea at a precisely timed moment.

It's clever engineering. The separate milk addition prevents boil-overs and allows for a more controlled brew. But it's not how most Indian homes make chai. We boil everything together — that's what gives masala chai its depth, that proper rolling boil where every ingredient melds.

Does the taste difference matter? Honestly, most people won't notice a huge gap. Chai purists will. Casual drinkers probably won't.

What We Didn't Like

• Separate milk compartment is food-grade plastic — milk sits in a food-grade plastic container before being dispensed into the brewing tea.
• Not traditional Indian brewing — the milk doesn't brew with the tea from the start. It joins midway. Some flavour nuance is lost. If you're used to kadak chai where everything boils together, you might notice the difference.
• Glass only, no steel option — breakable. No choice if you want shatterproof.
• Bulkier design — the separate milk compartment adds height and footprint. In a compact Indian kitchen, counter space is precious.

Best For

Larger families of 3-4 people who need maximum cups per batch. Sale hunters — when the price drops to Rs 2,499 on Amazon, it's genuinely excellent value for the capacity you get.
